Bloggers Year Book
Today I have been reading about a Bloggers Year Book to be collated by Tara at Sticky Fingers. This has been inspired by people posting old school photos as part of this week’s The Gallery theme of Education. I did not post my school photos but would very much like to be included in the year book so am posting some photos here. These are all quite early pics through primary to Year 7, I think. They were all taken in the 80s.
I wonder if regular readers of my blog see any likeness between me and Esther and William? I would be really interested to know.

The Gallery – Education
If children live with encouragement,
They learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance,
They learn to be patient.
If children live with praise,
They learn to appreciate.
If children live with acceptance,
They learn to love.
If children live with approval,
They learn to like themselves.
If children live with honesty,
They learn truthfulness.
If children live with security,
They learn to have faith in themselves and others.
If children live with friendliness,
They learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

As soon as I saw the brief for this week’s The Gallery I thought of this poem that I have displayed on my classrom door and in my home. It is a reminder that children learn what they live, education is about so much more than what is taught and learned in schools. Education is about family, community, experience, exploration and reflection.
I have always loved learning. I consider myself well educated, academically, socially and personally. I enjoy education.
The pictures I have chosen to share show me getting to grips with guiding something that played a huge part in my early years and a community that helped me learn who I was and who I wanted to be. This experience, the explorations, the people provided me with the values discussed in the poem that I used to start this post.
Children learn what they live, all life is an education, we are all learning all of the time.
What a great theme for The Gallery. Hop on over to Tara’s blog to see what other people have made of education this week.
The Gallery – Trees
I hope that I am just in time to join Tara’s weekly Gallery. The theme this week of trees made me immediately think of one photo, of one tree. The Tree of Gondor!
Any regular reader of this blog will know that my favourite film is Lord of the Rings. In Middle-earth there is one tree that matters, The Tree of Gondor.
In Spain, between the village of Parcent and the mountain top castle Guadelest there is a tree just like it, my very own Tree of Gondor and this is it.
I love in this second photo that my Mum is lurking in the background. It always makes me smile.
Hope I have managed to get my entry in on time to this very popular Gallery theme.
The Gallery – Simple Pleasures
Life is full of simple pleasures
like good food and fine wine (or other such beverage!)
“Pleasure is very seldom found where it is sought. Our brightest blazes are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks.”

The Gallery – Smiling Eyes
This week Sticky Fingers has asked us to photograph expression and it just so happens that today I was taking pictures of little Esther’s smiles. These are some of my favourites.
See in what direction other bloggers take this week’s brief over at Sticky Fingers’ Gallery.
