… Long long time ago, I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile
As a child
I was raised
On Rock n Roll
Thanks to my parents
My Dad in particular
The songs I know
By heart
The songs I love
To listen to
Over and over again
Are from the 50s & 60s
One of my most
Favourite singers of all time
Is Buddy Holly
We used to listen
To his music
At home
In the car
On holiday
Many of my childhood
Teenage and adult memories
Are tied up with
Buddy Holly ribbons
Last night I went
With my mother in law
To The Marlowe Theatre
To see Buddy The Buddy Holly Story
And I had THE BEST time
The only thing that
Would have made the night
More perfect
Is if my Dad had been there
I know that he
Like me
Would know every word
Every beat
To every song
And I know that
He has his own memories
Linked to the music of
Buddy Holly and The Crickets
If you have been thinking
That you might go to the show
While it is in Canterbury
I urge you to get tickets
It was a wonderful evening
Of nostalgia and entertainment
Telling the story of
Buddy Holly’s all too short
Career in country and
Rock n Roll music
So
If you knew Peggy Sue
This is the show for you
I could Rave On
About it Everyday
Telling you all the
True Love Ways
In which I adored this show
I would watch it again
In a Heartbeat
And the memories made
Last night
Will Not Fade Away
Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story
Is part musical biography
Part rock n roll concert
And the most wonderful
Celebration of the music
Of Buddy Holly
For fans of Buddy
The Crickets
For those who remember
The birth of rock n roll
For those raised on
Songs that have stood
The test of time
Songs that influenced
Musicians for generations
And continue to inspire
Us all today
This is a gift of a show
It tells the story of how
In two short years
Buddy Holly
Rose to fame
Writing his own songs
Playing his music
His way
Breaking records
And busting boundaries
Showing the world
The power of music
And that you can be
A kind good person
And a rock n roll star
Buddy Holly
Also made the
Wearing of glasses
Cool
And with the birth
Of rock n roll
Also came the
First teenagers
And I think much
Of the audience
Last night were
Reminiscing about
Their own teenage years
Singing and dancing
To Buddy Holly
This show is
Punctuated with
Perfect comedic moments
I loved the scene
Where Buddy and The Crickets
Were the first white musicians
To play the Apollo Theatre
In Harlem
Buddy and the boys
Rewrite history with
Their music
And their performance
Much fun is made of
The white boys
And no one anticipated
The love they would receive
From the Harlem crowd
That night
The second act of the show
Is mostly given over to
The 1959 Winter Dance Party
The last concert that
Buddy Holly played
Before he died
The show is fast paced and energetic
The talented cast all sing and dance
And they all play multiple instruments
The show is an absolute joy
And it was very hard not to sing along
The moments when the audience
Are invited to join in with the show
Were very much appreciated
The Buddy Holly musical
Is an incredible night
Of memories and music
With laughter and a love story
And heartbreak as the
Story comes to a tragic end
As the curtain falls
At the end of Act 2
And a lone guitar
Is spotlit in one
Corner of the stage
We are reminded
Of the day the music died
3rd February 1959
Leaving behind a young wife
And unborn child
Buddy Holly died in a plane crash
Aged 22
With Ritchie Valens
Aged 17 and
The Big Bopper
… But February made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn’t take one more step
… I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died
This show is testament
To the legacy left behind
By Buddy Holly
And his friends
Their music
Inspired a generation
And that generation
Passed along their love
Of Buddy
And now as my Dad raised me
I am making sure my own children
Grow to know and love
Country music
Rhythm and blues
Rock n Roll
And the incredible songs
Of Buddy Holly
I was given two tickets to the show in return for an honest review
