“Even with eyes protected by the green spectacles, Dorothy and her friends were at first dazzled by the brilliancy of the wonderful City.”
― L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Entering The Sinden Theatre
Bea was so excited
We were heading over the rainbow
To join Dorothy and her friends
As they followed the yellow brick road
To adventure, The Emerald City and
To see The Wizard Of Oz
This family pantomime
Kicked off in style
With a hoedown
Led by Dorothy Gale
On her farm in Kansas
Supported by an
Awesome ensemble
Of young performers
From The Creative Dance Company
Every time the young dancers
Were on stage
You could feel their energy
And the joy they felt
Being on the stage
The big song and dance numbers
In Kansas and Oz
Were, for me and Bea
The highlights of the show
The story of Dorothy
The scarecrow, lion and tinman
On their quest for
Courage, brains and a heart
Is one many families know well
And this pantomime
Kept many of the key elements
Of the original book and film
Including sneaky snippets
Of the songs copyright
Would not allow them to perform
There were lots of laughs
A bit too much potty humour
For my personal taste
But it was a funny show
Performed with good comic timing
To a very appreciative audience
There were some super set pieces
Including all the pantomime staples
Behind You!
Oh no he didn’t!
Oh yes he did!
Hello Kids!
Hello Scarecrow!
One of mine and Bea’s
Favourite scenes
Was Ghostbusters and The Bench
A set piece my family adore
From years of attending
The Marlowe Theatre
It was a HUGE crowd pleaser
For the Tenterden Panto team
Who executed it brilliantly
With what felt and sound like
The entire audience joining in
Bea loved the opportunities
To call out to the characters
And to feel part of the show
I know my other children
Will enjoy that too
When we go to watch Bea
In the show on Sunday
There was a wonderful
Camaraderie between the cast
Dorothy had a lovely singing voice
As did Glinda and the Wicked Witch
The two witches and the wizard
All spoke in rhyme
Giving a fairytale
Picture book feel
To the production
The scenery and
Fabulous lighting
Added to the magic
Of this Easter adventure
A wonderful family show
Filled with fun
And heartfelt messages
About courage
“You have plenty of courage, I am sure,” answered Oz. “All you need is confidence in yourself. There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty.”
― L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
And there truly being
No place like home
If you are local to Tenterden
And looking for a treat
For all the family this
Easter weekend
Why not come along to
The Sinden Theatre
And help Dorothy
The Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion
Complete their quest
And show your support
For the talented dancers
From The Creative Dance Company
I think I spied a couple of the
Stars of tomorrow
Easing down the road
Among the professionals today
Come and see the show and
Let them put a spell on you too
