The Marlowe Panto 2022: Sleeping Beauty

Last week we were invited to
The Marlowe Theatre
To review their 2022 pantomime
Sleeping Beauty

We went as a whole family
And to truly review the show
I should have filmed the children’s faces
Their expressions of joy
Their enthusiastic shouting
Clapping, cheering, booing
Their laughter
It was wonderful to see

We went to the theatre
With high expectations
The children know Jennie Dale
From CBeebies Christmas Shows
And pantomimes
My musical theatre mad daughters
All adore Carrie Hope Fletcher
Her incredible voice
And her children’s books too
We also went with a certain amount
Of nostalgia for Pantos past
The anticipation was palpable
And I am so happy to report
That we were not at all disappointed
Sleeping Beauty 2022
Marlowe Panto Style
Is EVERYTHING we hoped it would be
And more!

Esther, William and I are seasoned
Marlowe Panto goers
But for Edie and Bea it was their first
They loved every moment of it
The slapstick comedy
The West End worthy musical numbers

The stunning set and glorious costumes
The awe inspiring fire dancing
The fierce and fearless princess
The super cute monkey

The ghosts, ghouls, monsters
And two terrifying dinosaurs

This is a show that truly has
Something for everyone
And for those of us
Who return to The Marlowe Panto
Year after year
It feels, as it always does
Like coming home
Home to the warmest of welcomes

Sleeping Beauty is a brilliant pantomime
The dazzling brightly coloured set
Hooked us all in
The super Strictly dance routines
Had us all clapping along
To some amazing tunes
The music throughout the show
Was brilliant!
Featuring songs from
Prince, Alice Cooper, The Who
And Ugly Kid Joe
Which took me right back
To being a teenager in the 90s
I Hate Everything About You
Was a spectacular vocal performance
From Jennie Dale and Carrie-Bosse
I loved singing along!

As always Ben Roddy’s dame costumes
Were whacky and elaborate
Building up throughout the show
We loved seeing what Nurse Nellie
Was wearing in each scene

We laughed so much throughout
The performance
The funniest scenes was definitely
The brilliant slapstick slosh scene
Featuring Nurse Nellie, Jangles and the Prince
A wonderfully choreographed
Expertly executed
Incredibly messy musical comedy scene
That ended with a massive water fight
The kids LOVED it

There was so much to love about this show
The tender love story
The feud of the fairies

Carrie-bosse’s pet dinosaurs
Lloyd and Webber
The wheelbarrow of Pun
The Bench
The amazing ventriloquist skills
Of Max Fulham
Who was wonderful as Jangles

If you are in need of some Christmas cheer
You must see the Marlowe Panto
Festive fun for all the family
And the perfect production
To inspire a love of theatre
In little people

My children have not stopped asking
When we can go back to The Marlowe
And watch the show again

We loved every moment of Sleeping Beauty
And we think that you will too x

Here is a little slide show
Of William’s highlights
