It is officially the festive season
In theatre land
With magical shows now in theatres across the land
For children and their grown ups to enjoy
We have already been lucky enough to see
The Snowman this year
Which the children and I adored
Here are some festive theatre highlights
From our corner of the world
Kent and London
Have you got tickets to see any of these shows?
The Snowman at Sadlers’ Wells Peacock Theatre
Seeing The Snowman at Sadlers’ Wells Peacock Theatre
Has become a tradition for us
It is how we begin our Advent For Tilda each year
A trip to London
To see one of our favourite festive stories
Told through dance
This is the perfect first ballet for small children
Ours have always been entranced but the dancing
The costumes, set, lighting
The flying and the falling snow
This year is the ballet’s 25th season
And is dedicated to creator of The Snowman, Raymond Briggs CBE 1934-2022
Picture Perfect Christmas at The National Gallery
Did you know that The National Gallery had a theatre?
No?
Me either.
But it does and this year they have their first fetive offering for all the family
Picture Perfect Christmas is a new show where larger-than-life characters step out of a masterpiece and embark on a magical Christmas adventure. A tale of friendship, mystery and festive spirit set in the 1600s.
This 60-minute musical show will unfold in the National Gallery’s theatre and is set inside the imagined world of one of the Gallery’s iconic paintings: Hendrick Avercamp’s ‘Winter Scene with Skaters near a Castle’.
We cannot wait to see this one and have a look at the famous painting too
Sleeping Beauty Pantomime at The Marlowe
We are incredibly lucky to have The Marlowe
As our local theatre
Voted Theatre of the Year
It is a stunning place to see shows
And there is no show quite like
The Marlowe Panto
There is no dame quite like Ben Roddy
And when your children grow up with a pantomime
They come to know all the jokes and gimmicks and set pieces
The traditions
That make returning to panto at The Marlowe
Feel like coming home
We are counting sleeps until we get to see
This year’s Marlowe Panto
With a whole host of stars including
Jennie Dale and Carrie Hope Fletcher
Who my children all adore!
If you live in Kent and you have never seen a Marlowe Pantomime
You absolutely must
It is the most festive fun imaginable
And will give you a glow in your heart for the whole new year
The Storm Whale at The Marlowe
We are huge fans of Benji Davies
And we cannot wait to see the stage show
Inspired by two of our favourite stories
The Storm Whale and The Storm Whale In Winter
The perfect festive theatre outing for youngest theatre goers
Though I have to say my big kids are just as excited as my younger ones
To see these brilliant and beautiful stories brough to life
On stage
Christmas Orchestral Adventure at The Royal Albert Hall
Calling Santa’s little helpers!
My Christmas Orchestral Adventure returns in 2022 and Albert’s Orchestra is poised and ready for a magical journey through classical music.
Oh no! Father Christmas has lost his map on a practice run of his delivery route! Thankfully our trusty ensemble has found it but they need your help to return it to him ahead of the big day!
We need to zip around the world on an orchestral adventure to track him down. Along the way we’ll ice skate on frozen lakes, go on a sleigh ride and enjoy a white Christmas, all without leaving the Royal Albert Hall’s magical auditorium.
A full symphony orchestra will bring our adventure to life!
Will you help Albert’s Orchestra save Christmas?
We are so excited for this on Sunday 11th December!
The Nutcracker at The Royal Albert Hall
One of the traditions I want to make with my children
Is seeing The Nutcracker together at Christmas
I hope when they leave home
It is something we will still do together
At Christmas
This year Esther, Bea and I will be seeing The Nutcracker
At the Royal Albert Hall
It’s not Christmas without The Nutcracker! And in 2022 we are overjoyed to announce the return of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s festive favourite to the Royal Albert Hall. This enchanting production, featuring Tchaikovsky’s glorious score, is a sparkling festive treat for the whole family.
Created exclusively for the Royal Albert Hall, with gorgeous period costumes and dazzling projections, this Christmas classic is brought to life by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s world-class ballet dancers and orchestra, the Royal Ballet Sinfonia.
Experience the true magic of Christmas, as Clara’s toys come to life at the stroke of midnight. Journey through a fantastical winter wonderland of dancing snowflakes to the kingdom of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
It is going to be wonderful!
Are you heading to the theatre this festive season?
We would love to know what you are going to see x
