With thousands of different cultures out there in the world you will find that your child will be asking a lot of different questions to help them understand them all. Your child will meet lots of people from different races and backgrounds, so it’s important to teach them to be open and respectful. Here are some ways you can teach them to do just that.
Explore different cuisines
There are a lot of different foods out there for your child to try out, each with varying flavours and textures to get used to. It will help your child get used to how they all feel, and also get to help your child learn about the different ingredients involved in cooking. Depending on how adventurous your child is, they’ll be able to find their new favourite foods and recipes you can all try out at home.
Take part in different celebrations
There are lots of religious celebrations across the year, but there’s also a lot of celebrations that are specific to each country your child can explore. While your child is able to explore a lot of these in schools, depending on what events they choose to celebrate of course, you can also take these outside of school.
A sixth form in Surrey is going to have a different set of experiences for students to try in comparison to a primary school in the same region, for instance. It’s important to explore different historical events that schools won’t necessarily cover to broaden your child’s horizons.
Encourage your child’s friends to invite them to different celebrations
Schools are a great place for children to explore different backgrounds and ethnicities, which is why your child could take the opportunity to get involved. Your child could get involved in a local Diwali festival with their friends, or explore how your child can participate in Jewish celebrations. All of these festivities will really help your child understand how other people celebrate what they hold close to them.
Take your child to heritage museums
No matter where you are in the world you will find that there are heritage museums or exhibits to teach tourists and locals about the history of the area. This will help your child learn about the past and what people traditionally embrace in these areas. People in Spain are going to celebrate and enjoy things differently to people from the UK. These all help your child become more aware of how other cultures influence the way we live.
