Drama lessons, or the world of performing arts, explores a range of different outcomes that aim to give your child the best skills. Some schools provide specific performing arts lessons for children to explore, with other schools giving children a general overview of drama and theatre with the chance to develop on those skills.
They are important to explore with your child for a number of reasons. Here are some key reasons why your child will greatly appreciate drama lessons.
They teach your child about raw emotions
A lot of performing arts, be it studying a film or a theatre production, are developed upon due to the subject matter. There are many difficult themes and issues that the protagonist overcomes in their story, and it’s a good place for children to discover those for the first time.
Subjects like friendships, arguments, bullies, disagreements in school, struggling in certain subjects, stress, and so on, give your child the perspective that they are not alone in their journey. Drama lessons can realise this and help children in their progression of life skills.
They give your child the chance to boost their confidence
Acting, singing, working with others and learning how to be respectful are all key in drama lessons. With all of this to consider your child is going to boost their confidence and self-esteem as a result. It will help your child come to terms with their skills, where they feel like they could improve their skills and how to overcome fear.
A lot of fear comes from standing in front of other people which is where your child will gain the most confidence. Drama will give them that chance to express themselves and learn to build on their core strengths.
They enhance your child’s education
Drama lessons are away from the traditional book reading and writing and filling out workbooks. It’s a good way of moving away from the standard ways of learning in favour of using more interactive ways to learn. These lessons can also help your child in other lessons in school. For example, your child is learning how to pronounce particular words, picking up on new words and exploring other key skills.
Above all else, it’s very fun
Acting, singing, dancing and engaging, making friends and building teams together will give your child the chance to have plenty of fun. All of their time in these lessons will help your child explore more ways to be themselves, feel comfortable and boost their mood – all key for a child’s success in their studies.
My children adore drama lessons, dance school and stage school. Here are some of our favourite theatre and performing arts books.
