Fantastically Great Women from Page to Stage

Kate Pankhurst books are hugely popular at Edspire HQ and these activity books are part of our home learning this week as we think about inspirational women and science.

Kate’s book Fantastically Great Women Scientists and their Stories is brilliant.

It works as a read aloud but is perfect for poring over.

Every page is fabulously illustrated and stories are told through straight text, speech and through bubbles, diary entries and diagrams, family trees, advertisements and more.

Every life story is an emotional read as you discover the battles fought and won, the prejudice and unfairness each woman faced, how hard they worked, how humble their beginnings and how bright their fires of passion burned. The 8 women featured are dedicated, intelligent, creative and clever.

They are courageous and committed. They are daughters, sisters and mothers. They are incredibly inspirational.

Mae Jemison, Marie Curie, Elizabeth Blackwell, Janaki Amal, Katia Krafft, Caroline Herschel, Tu YouYou and Rosalind Franklin. All stupendously super scientists and fantastically great women.

This is an amazing book for learning the life story behind the science and the science discovered, explored and shared because of each of these lives. These women. These scientists.

“They were smart, inquisitive and persistent.
They never gave up on their dreams.
And, not only did they change to world’s understanding of science, they transformed people’s ideas of what women can do.”

We are super excited to be heading to The Marlowe Theatre next week

To see the musical based on Kate’s original book

Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World

Celebrated – and often forgotten – women from history are brought to life on stage, including Rosa Parks, Sacagawea, Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie, Mary Seacole, Frida Kahlo, Jane Austen, and Pankhurst’s own relative Emmeline. When inquisitive heroine Jade breaks away from her school trip to the local museum to peek at the Gallery of Greatness, she meets iconic women from the past, such as explorers, scientists, artists and secret agents. This thrilling musical is full of incredible characters, inspirational moments and a soundtrack that packs a popstar punch.

We cannot wait to see so many of our heroines from history

Brought to life on stage to tell their stories
