Ava’s Daddies are doctors
But no ordinary doctors
They are
The Marvellous Doctors For Magical Creatures
They care for dragons with sore throats
Fairies with broken wings
Sneezy centaurs and
Mermaids with measles
We join Ava and her Daddies
As they meet Glitterbug
An unhappy unicorn with tummy trouble
The doctors cannot find anything obviously wrong
With this particular magical creature
And while Ava is not a doctor (yet)
She loves searching for clues
And solving mysteries
Ava suggests that she spends some time with Glitterbug
And tries to find out the cause of her poorliness
Ava’s Daddies agree and she sets off across the city
The very next day
To find Glitterbug and all the other unicorns
In Dewdrop Meadow
When Ava arrives at the meadow
All the unicorns are having a wonderful time
All except Glitterbug
It does not long for Ava to unravel the mystery
Of Glitterbug’s tummy trouble
She has been trying so hard to fit in with the other unicorns
And it has left her feeling miserable
She is not a party planner
She does not have a passion for pink
Or sunshine and sparkles
Glitterbug likes reading and drawing
She likes moody skies and storms
She has been too scared to show her true colours
For fear of being left out
Her tummy troubles stemmed from sadness and worry
Ava helps to uncover her unhappiness
And reassure Glitterbug that
There is more than one way to be a unicorn
And her way is a wonderful way
And just as valid as all the others
Ava solves the mystery and finds a new friend in Glitterbug
Who now knows that trying to fit in has caused her illness
And being herself will make it go away
This is a story about being true to yourself
A tale of not being afraid to be different
A reminder that we do not have to follow the crowd
Sometimes it is better to stand out than to fit in
The most important thing is being true to you
And being happy with who you are
This is a story of kindness and friendship
A perfect read for Empathy Day and all days
The book is beautifully designed
Filled with gorgeous colour illustrations
And a whole host of magical creatures
To pick out on every page
We loved seeing all the hints to Glitterbug’s true personality
In the pictures
There are so many little details on every page
That add depth, humour and heart to the written story
My children have spent ages finding all the magical creatures
And coming up with illnesses, injuries and ailments for them all
You could make a marvellous alphabet or list poem
Starring magical creatures and their medical maladies
A fun book with an important message
One that will inspire lots of creative fun
In the classroom and at home
From the creators of The Pirate Mums
This is a marvellous magical story to make you smile
