This year Children’s Mental Health Week was on the theme of Growing Together
I have three books for you that when given together make a beautiful gift for children or grown ups.
They are all written by the wonderful Libby Walden with illustrators Richard Jones and Clover Robin
These three books complement one another so well and remind us all of the need to recognise and accept our own feelings, to have empathy and understanding for the feelings of others, to understand the ways in which we grow and change as individuals and as families, to know that though we all grow up we will all do so differently and that is okay. These books are beautifully written with poetic verses that speak to adults and children reminding and reassuring us that we are unique and however we are, whoever we are, we are enough. We are special and we are loved.
The first book is Feelings
The second is As We Grow
The third and newest book is A Walk Through Nature
A Walk Through Nature is an absolutely joyful peek through natural world book. It takes little readers and their grown ups on an adventure in the wild. It shows us why it is important to take time to stop and look, to stop and listen, to get to know the wildlife in our local area. This book will make you want to get out and roam the countryside, to sit and stare a while, to really look and actively listen. Getting out in nature is so good for our heads, hearts and souls.
This book takes us through the seasons, looking in hedgerows & trees, beneath rocks & below ground. It encourages us to seek the magic in the world, to find the poetry in the everyday & to get out & explore. With these gorgeous pages we skip through flower meadows, nest in trees, paddle in ponds, soar through the skies, marvel at Minibeasts, soak up the sunshine by the sea. With peep throughs, cut outs & pages that fold out there is so much beauty & information in this book. So much hope!
“There are secrets in a fresh-laid egg
And in the blossom of a tree
There’s promise in a chrysalis
That time will soon set free …”
Books, nature, growing together & dealing with our feelings. Three very special, very important books.
