Have you heard of the Yule tomte? In Sweden he brings Christmas presents to children. It is traditional to leave a bowl of porridge out for the tomte on Christmas night to say thank you.
This is a story about The Yule Tomte and the Little Rabbits. It is an advent story book told in 25 short chapters though can also be enjoyed in one sitting. The story is filled with wonderful wintery woodland scenes, it has a delightful cast of forest animals and a grouchy tomte called Grump. This is the story of a reluctant Yule tomte and shows the joy families find in making preparations for Christmas through the weeks of advent. The rabbit family and their woodland friends decorate their Christmas tree, write and rehearse a song, bake festive goodies and much more. Grump we discover is not as miserable as he would like us to believe. He is kind hearted and looks after little creatures, he also loves Christmas just as much as we all do. This is a gentle festive tale that shows children the magic and meaning of Christmas and also introduces children to the Swedish celebration of St Lucia’s Day. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is filled with the wonders of the natural world. We have loved reading this story and Edie now wants to know more about the tomte and porridge. Edie LOVES porridge!
