So remember this Christmas
That what might seem small
And means nothing to you
To another means all
We have started our annual toy and book reduction. Every year before Christmas I try to donate things we have grown out of to charity shops in the hope they might help other families have a merrier Christmas. Christmas is a time for kindness and giving. This story is a reminder to us all that little acts of kindness can be huge for others. Little things can mean a lot and make a big difference. At Christmas it is time to remember that we should always be kind.
The Christmas Crumb is a wonderful festive story.
We begin at dinner with a royal family of giants. An enormous Christmas pudding is served and gobbled and gorged by the family.
One piece crumbles off and rolls out of the door. The Princess giant is sorry for dropping the pudding but her mum says
Don’t worry my poppet, it’s only a crumb.
So itsy, so bitsy, it’s not worth the fussing.
It’s quite unimportant – it really is nothing.
The crumb rolls on to the table of a hungry human family. To them it is a prize pudding and they each devour their share. But a piece breaks off and a young child searches for the speck only to be told not to worry, it’s only a crumb.
The crumb rolls through a hole in the wall to the house of a mouse and his family. For them the crumb provides a great feast and when they too lose a crumb it feeds a whole army of ants!
With a wonderful rhyming repetitive refrain for the whole family to join ok with, this is a wonderful book for reading aloud and would be wonderful adapted into a Christmas play. It would be fun to create lots of different sized puddings and make pudding crumb food chains. Full of heart and humour this is a fun festive story. The illustrations are super cute and the message is perfect for the season.
What might be little thing for you can turn out to be a big thing for someone else.
