Book Review: Swan Song

“Tell me where the swans go in the winter
I need to know if the mute ones can sing.

Tell me why stars fall from the sky
I need to know if it is luck they bring.

Tell me why feathers land near you
I need to know if you’ve injured your wing.

Now, tell me where you end, my angel
For I no longer know where I begin.”

This beautiful book is published by Barrington Stoke

They have two more written by Gill Lewis

That Esther and I are going to read

They are Run Wild and Eagle Warrior

Barrington Stoke publish incredibly detailed resources

For schools and libraries

That are fantastic for home education too

For developing discussion around the book and the issues it raises

There are also some lovely creative writing ideas

Esther and I are going to introduce William to the story

And have our own little Book Talk Club

Barrington Stoke publish dyslexia friendly books

Which are proving to be brilliant for engaging and inspiring Esther

Esther is dyslexic and while she finds the physical act of reading difficult

She finds reading tiring

Her understanding of what she reads and especially of what she hears is incredible

She has a high level of intelligence and is very empathetic

What I love about Barrington Stoke

Is that they provide age appropriate accessible books

That make reading easier

But do not shy away from difficult topics, tricky concepts or complicated emotions

These books are going to make a HUGE difference to Esther

Swan Song already has

It is a stunning book that has completely captured our hearts
