“Standing there, staring at the long shelves crammed with books, I felt myself relax and was suddenly at peace.”
Helene Hanff, Q’s Legacy: A Delightful Account of a Lifelong Love Affair with Books
Today as life unlocks a little more among the things to open are bookshops and libraries
I, for one, cannot wait
I love everything about bookshops
It is a day out for us to visit a shop
Leaf through the pages of books we have not seen inside before
My children love book browsing as much as I do
They feel the magic that happens as soon as you walk through the doors and it feels like coming home
Bookshops and libraries are so important for so many reasons
They are places of comfort, refuge, magic and adventure
They are somewhere to be lost and also be found
They are somewhere to learn
They are somewhere to escape
They hold so many secrets
They are a place where imaginations are fired up and curiosity is sparked
They are places to explore
A space to share or to be alone
A place of discovery
Bookshops and libraries protect our mental health and inspire us to do and be better
They bring us together
We cannot wait to stand in front of those shelves
Breathe in that bookish smell and feel the weight of the world drift away
And our shoulders relax just for that moment, that visit
I am not sure I will ever want to leave
We are waiting a little longer for our first bookshop visit
We have decided to celebrate Baby Tilda’s birthday this year with a very special family bookshop visit
The children are saving their pennies and doing extra chores
So they can buy beautiful books in memory of Matilda Mae
We are heading to Moonlane Ramsgate to celebrate all things bookish
In memory of our baby in the stars
We are already counting sleeps!!
Bookshops and libraries from today
Better than any haircut or pint in a pub garden
Will be seeing my children’s eyes and hearts light up as they choose a new book
Today the sun is shining and bookshops and libraries are back!
It feels like there is a lot of hope in the world x
In celebration
Here are some of our favourite books about books, bookshops and libraries
