A Natural History of Fairies

#gifted Tomorrow is a very exciting day for @emilyhawkinsbooks and @jessicasroux as their incredible book A Natural History of Fairies is available for all to buy in the UK. This is an amazing book and I have been so worried about writing this review as I am scared that I cannot do it justice. We have had this book for a little over a week now and the children and I have not put it down. One of us is always reading it. The girls have designed their own fairies and tried writing as deciphering the fairy alphabet. We have all chosen our favourite fairies and which wings we would most like to have. Every so often William will be the one reading it and loudly exclaiming, “This is really interesting actually” This is fascinating, listen to this…” He has been delighted to discover the science behind the magic. How bone density plays a part in why fairies can fly and how fairies interact with the plants and animals around them. This is much more than a history of fairies. This is a timely call to action for all children wrapped up in beautiful vintage styling and a whole heap of fairy dust! Children, and adults, can learn so much from this stunning book which encourages children to take action and to be guardians of the natural web of life, the natural world that we share with fairies. Through this fairy guide book we have learned about identification of species, classification, anatomical structures, lifecycles, camouflage, adaptation, migration and hibernation. We have learned about habitat destruction and the part humans play. We have learned the names of continents and countries, we have found out native species of plants and animals for countries all around the globe. We have learned the different names used for fairies around the world. We have learned about leaf identification, seed dispersal, pollination and how to identify poisonous plants. This beautiful book will inspire children to play outside and explore nature. It encourages us all to slow down, open our eyes and look at the beauty around us … only then might we find what we are looking for … fairies!!!!

This is such a wonderful book for little witches. This is a guide to nature magic, using the magic within your heart and head to do good. This is a book that encourages children to slow down, explore nature, enjoy the outdoors and believe in themselves. This is a book filled with adventure and learning and written with a whole lot of heart. This is a spell book. The spells are simple and their ingredients natural and they centre around positive wellbeing and being kind to ourselves and others. This is a book of meditation and mindfulness, a book of self discovery. There is a delicious love and kindness potion which is warm milk with honey, vanilla and cinnamon. There is a wonderful Love Yourself Rainbow Spell all about positive affirmations and their power. The book tell you how to make magic wands, magical stars and pendulums. There is a beautiful Wish On A Star Spell, a Dandelion Spell and a recipe for a warming Get Well Soon Elixir. Edie loves the Puddle Jumping Spell while Bea wants to take a salty mermaid bath. Esther is hoping to learn to read tea leaves like Professor Trelawney! This is a wonderful book combining children’s fascination with magic with the awe and wonder of nature. This would make a beautiful gift for children this Christmas. It is definitely not one to only be brought out at Halloween. This is the perfect book for curious little nature explorers. Beautifully written with pretty colourful illustrations. A guidebook of essential spells, potions and activities linked to flowers, trees, the stars and the moon. Spells and incantations linked to love and kindness, community, self belief and friendship. A beautiful gift for anyone who wants to begin their study of the magical arts. @little_witchery @chroniclekidsbooks #thelittlewitchsbookofspells
