I cannot quite believe that we have already seen The Snowman again
Just where has 2019 gone?
We booked our tickets for this festive ballet back in June
And were so very very excited that the day had finally come around
Dressed in our finest snowman outfits
We headed to London and The Peacock Theatre
To begin our #adventtoremember
Our #adventfortilda
Arriving at the theatre is always exciting
Edie loved meeting the inflatable snowman
While William loved reading the programme
Finding out more about the dancers we would see on stage
As you enter the auditorium
The stage is set and looks like a snow globe
My children absolutely love the theatre
And for all of them
The Snowman is where their love of theatre began
A story they are familiar with on page and screen
Brought to life on the stage
This was Edie’s first time seeing The Snowman
And she absolutely loved it
She was engaged for the whole of the ballet
Commenting on the characters and dancing on the stage
She was very taken with the boy, James
Danced beautifully by George Nearn Stuart
Age 9
I think he was the youngest dancer we have ever seen in this role
We all thought he was wonderful
His face was filled with excitement
With all the awe and wonder the magic of the story commands
His dancing was beautiful to watch
He had huge stage presence for one so little
And so much energy and emotion
A super performance!
Bea loved the Ice Princess
I think she dreams of dancing in a show like The Snowman one day
Esther loved the teddy bear
The toy dance is one of my favourite parts of the show
A train rushes across the stage
The music box ballerina, the teddy and the toy soldier are all wonderful
William loves the fruit limbo
And Father Christmas
He also loves Jack Frost who is an inspiration for young acro dancers like William
Edie calls Jack Frost ‘The Frost Monster’
She is still talking about the whole show
It has had a huge impact on her
She loves The Snowman
And seeing it on stage has been the best start to Christmas for her
For us all
We feel like we know all the characters
And the music is of course recognisable to all
Composed by the wonderful Howard Blake
So synonymous with advent and Christmas
And snowmen around the world
Every year we see this show
We are all engaged and enchanted
Our eyes never leave the stage
Each section of the ballet
Is a story told for children
Told with magic and music
Told through dance
We love everything about The Snowman
But some special snippets are
The flying scene of course (This always makes me cry!)
The motorbike scene with the woodland creatures
We always talk about which animal each of us would like to be
The fridge fruit limbo
The toys dance
The penguin duo
The reindeer entrance
The snowman party
The dream sequence
The carol singers
There is EVERYTHING to love about this wonderful festive family ballet
If you are looking for snow this festive season
If you are looking for some Christmas magic
If you are searching for awe and wonder
If you love The Snowman and want to share that love with your little ones
Do take them to see The Snowman ballet
You will not regret it
You will all just want to go again and again and again
And every time you leave
Covered in the snow that falls at the end of the finale
You will feel like you are walking on air!
