Driving in Scotland?
Fife Autocentre would like to share some tyre tips with you
Scottish roads can be some of the most challenging in the world. In towns and cities, there are things like broken glass and spilt screws to avoid. On the major A-roads, there are some big potholes which have not been attended to for years. Furthermore, in many rural areas of the country, there are adverse cambers and patches where snowdrifts can develop. All of these things place your car’s tyres under more and more pressure to perform. What things can you do to maintain your tyres that won’t take too long out of your day?
Check Your Tyre Pressure
When your tyres are over-inflated, they will age sooner than they otherwise would have done because they bow out at the sides meaning not all of the tread comes into contact with the road, something you need in icy conditions in the highlands, for instance. Equally, spending a minute or two confirming your tyre pressure level when you next fill up will mean discovering whether or not your tyres are under-inflated. Flattening tyres tend to wear down quicker than they should because they bottom out on the road more meaning the tread suffers disproportionately.
Look for Sidewall Damage
A quick inspection of your tyres’ sidewalls makes sense if you want to ensure yours are in good enough condition to drive on Scotland’s often tricky roads. When there are any gouge-like marks that are present, it is a sign not of vandalism but the deterioration of the rubber compound the tyres are made from. This will soon lead to trouble if you continue to drive on them. To avoid a potential blowout, you should get the right tyres in Dundee from Fife Autocentre which can replace your current, damaged set.
Inspect Your Tread
When tyres are worn down, you get less grip – something that is undesirable on exposed roads close to the coast or that run through glens, for example. If you buy a tyre tread gauge, you can confirm you have enough grip in a matter of minutes. These devices are accurate and could prevent you from getting into trouble with the authorities.

Loved your post! We are planning to stay in Scotland for a while so we will be on the road! We are going to do a lot of traveling soon, so we need to be road ready. I think tires are the most important part of a car when traveling.
