Five years ago I made a Christmas Sensory Box for Matilda Mae
This year I wanted to do similar for Edie
As she is the same age this Christmas
As Tilda was for her first and only
I wanted to do something similar
But not the same
And so together with help from Esther, William and Bea
I have made a festive sensory song basket
So we can introduce Edie to our festive favourites
Yuletide carols and Christmas classics
The song basket is proving to be a huge hit with all my children
The wicker basket is filled with toys and puppets
That can be linked to one or more Christmas songs
The basket also includes some musical instruments
And some sensory books with melodies and festive sounds
We take turns to pick something out of the basket
That gives us a song to sing
These figgy pudding bells
Help us to sing We Wish You a Merry Christmas
Frosty the Snowman
Away in a Manger
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Let It Snow Let It Snow Let It Snow
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Little Donkey
We Three Kings
While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By Night
It Was On A Starry Night
Oh Christmas Tree
Rockin’ Robin
Walking in the Air
Jingle Bells
Jingle Bell Rock
Little Drummer Boy
The toys and puppets I have used in the basket
Are all safe for Edie
They have no small, loose parts
They are good for grasping and chewing
For cuddling and babbling away too
Edie loves music
She loves it when I
Or any of her siblings
Sing to her
She lives jingling bells
Clacking clackers
Banging drums
This baby likes to make a noise
Edie also likes to rummage
She loves a collection of things
To look through
To examine
To inspect
I love watching her
Engrossed in exploring
Lost in her thoughts
Feeling smooth plastic
Cold metal
Soft fabric
Learning through play
Using all of her senses
There is nothing more beautiful
More awe inspiring
Than watching a baby play
My baby play
Any of my children play
This basket of trinkets and toys
Has brought such festive joy into our house
I am certain it will be something
We recreate together every advent
For years to come
Adding in our new favourites each December
I have a feeling that next year we will need a dinosaur
It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas
The most wonderful time of the year!
To play with Edie
And remember Tilda
What Christmas classic or festive favourite would you choose?
