I have always loved autumn
It is the season of my birth
The season of my wedding
The season that our first precious children were due to be born in
I love the beauty that autumn brings
The hope
Of new beginnings
I love the rich colours
I love autumn sunshine
The hint of frost
And I adore the fruits of the season
And the adventures that they bring
Conkers
Acorns
Pooh sticks!
Since September began
We have been collecting our autumn treasures
And today we decided we wanted to share them with Edie
So that she might also discover the joys of autumn
And begin to make her own memories of the season
Today we made some new discovery bottles
For Edie’s sensory play
We call them her Nature Shakers
And now we are sharing them with you
First you will need a plastic bottle or glass jar
To fill with your favourite autumn treasures
We made three bottles for Edie
Conkers and acorns
Twigs and rice
Conkers, sticks and acorns
She has loved looking at them
Touching them
And listening to their sound
The rice and sticks made a softer sound
Than the harder conkers and acorns
They were more like a rain stick
The others like shakers
Edie loved both
Just as much
She spent a long time looking
Exploring
Discovering
Using her senses
By all these lovely tokens
September days are here
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.
