We have four daughters
Esther Grace, our sunshine
Matilda Mae, our angel and star
Beatrice Hope and Edith Mabel, our rainbows
Alongside his sisters
Our brave heart, William Nairn
Esther, William, Tilda, Bea and Edie
I could name a hundred children
I love the process of choosing a name
The pressure!
I think though it is hard to say out loud
That we are done
Our family is complete
As people say
Though life is like a box of chocolates!!!
Anyway …
Assuming that there will be no more babies for me
I thought that I would write a few posts
To feed my fever over baby names
A few posts about baby names I love
But will most likely never use
Starting with the girls names
That have been on our lists for Edie and Bea
And some of them were also on the list for Esther
Matilda was our only daughter to have her name set from the start
And William, William has always been William
But right now
10 Baby Names I Love But (Probably!) Will Never Use
Florence
If we had another baby girl her name would be Florence
Probably Florence Agnes
Perhaps Agnes Florence actually
Two names considered for Edie and Bea
Florence is so popular which is what put us off
It is such a pretty name
And I adore Florrie and Floss for short
The name Florence Agnes means blossoming purity
Which I rather like
Cordelia
I love this name but David really does not like it
I love the name and its shortened versions
Cordy and Dilly
I am not keen on Delia though
Which was in the end what made me stop pushing for the name
Cordelia means lion heart
And jewel of the sea
Such wonderful meanings
Juliet
This is such a pretty name
Classic
Romantic
But the meaning is a little dull
It means youthful
Ida
A strong name
With Germanic roots
Again the meaning is not great
Work, deed or action
Dorothy
I love the name Dorothy
I have always believed my maternal Grandmother was called Dorothy
Turns out she was Doris
And her mother was Ivy
Neither were Dorothy
Though Doris was known as Dot
Dorothy is a pretty name
Dot is cute
Little Dot
Dinky Dot
Dorothy means gift of God
Perfect for a longed for baby girl
Nora
This name has been on every list
Nora
Meaning honour and light
A beautiful name
With beautiful meanings
Constance
Hope and Grace are middle names for our girls
I also love Faith as a middle name
It is in fact my mum’s middle name
And one we seriously considered for Edie
We thought about Jean for Edie too
As a middle name
Jean is my mum’s name
A nod to my Scottish roots
Though my mum is not Scottish!
Constance is a wonderful name
And I love Connie
I am a huge fan of the singer Connie Francis
And Constance in the television series of The Three Musketeers
A strong name
A name with an obvious meaning
Constant
Steadfast
Loyal and true
Nell
Nell is another name that I love
But David is not keen on at all
I know Nell is often short for Elinor or Helen
But I love it as a name in it’s own right
It means bright shining one
Which is beautiful and strong
A super name for a little girl and a grown lady
Naomi
This Hebrew name means pleasant
Which is lovely but not very inspiring
And backwards it spells
I moan
Which is what struck the name
From our list of possibilities
Ruth
Another name from the Bible
A pretty name
Meaning friend
Or vision of beauty
This was considered for all our daughters I think
Though we already have a Ruth in our extended family
A very lovely Ruth
Who would have been a positive role model
And name sake
So there you have my list
10 Baby Names I Love But (Probably!) Will Never Use
I am going to share some boy names next!!
Until then here are some other posts
I have written about baby names
BABY NAME POSTS
What is in a Name: Edith Mabel (Edie Mae)
Naming a Fourth Girl: Our Second Rainbow Baby
We had Florence Eva picked out if Fraser had been a girl. Seeing how popular it is I’m kinda glad we had a boy. Hope you are well lovely lady. Xxx
Yes Edie was almost Florence Edith and I am now very glad that she is not x It is a beautiful name but very popular, very very popular where we live x It is beautiful though. But Edie is very much Edie Mae so much so I often forget that she is in fact Edith Mabel, just as I forget Bea is really Beatrice Hope x
I could pretty much have written this list myself. We must have the same great taste in names! Edie was top of our list for the last (who turned out to be a boy!) but we also loved Nell, Nora, Ida/Ada & Florrie ❤️
They are all such pretty names but also classic and timeless as they grow up. Naming babies is such a responsibility x
Gorgeous names in your list. I have used a few of them myself. Our family was completed 10 years ago but the favourite names have been used for the pets instead! Our chickens were Jemima, Beatrice, Clarissa, Matilda, Emilia and Isabella. I already have the list of names for the next flock. I just love choosing names although now the children are older I’m mindful not to choose ones they favour as I don’t want to limit their list for my future grandchildren!
Our Matilda shared her name with David’s childhood cat x
Oh, I love the name Dorothy! I thought I was the only one though! Glad to see it on your list.
