We have been having some Valentine’s Day
With these four fun activities for all the family
If you are spending the day with your little ones today
Why not try one, two or all of these
You can buy all you need in Lidl for sure
And probably from most supermarkets
Here they are
Four fantastic fun activities
For a family Valentine’s Day
Sweetie STEM
For this activity you will need
Jelly Tots
Marshmallows
Jelly heart sweets
Toothpicks
This construction activity is great fun
I showed the children all the materials
And asked them to have a go at creating something
All three immediately got stuck in
Starting with simple structures
Such as magic wands
Moving on to stick men
2D shapes
And then starting to build solid structures
William used mainly marshmallows and sticks
To make his awesome space station
Esther mostly used the jelly hearts
And the Jelly Tots
To make her people and animals
Her magical wands and hiking hearts
Bea enjoyed threading the coloured sweets
On to the spiky sticks
We had great fun
And once the activity was finished
I did let the children eat some of the sweets
Heart Shaped Pasta Play
For this activity you will need
Heart shaped pasta
Spaghetti
Playdough
Pipe cleaners
We started off with some simple threading
Threading pasta hearts on to sticks of spaghetti
We made a playdough base to hold the spaghetti up
Bea loves threading
It is great for developing her fine motor control
As the pasta was two colours
We were able to explore pattern
And practise our counting too
After a while we decided to try
Printing with the pasta
Pushing different parts of the pasta shapes
Into the playdough
To see what prints and patterns were left behind
We then spent a long time
Making pasta jewellery
Esther joined us for this too
And made some very pretty pasta creations
This activity was so simple
And such fun
We saved some of the pasta
Which we cooked up with Pesto
And ate for lunch
Valentine Monograms
For this activity you will need
Plain paper
A marker pen
Love heart stickers
This is really easy to set up
And easy to adapt for any age or occasion
Making monograms with stickers
Each child made their initial
First they wrote it on the paper
Then adorned it with colourful stickers
After doing letters
We made some flowers
And some Valentine pictures
Why not see what you can do?
Love Monsters
This activity was inspired by the picture book
Love Monster
We decided to make our very own monsters to love
For this activity you will need
Playdough
Pipe cleaners
Pom poms
Spaghetti
Pasta hearts
Googly eyes
All the children loved this activity
(We had cousins over to play)
They were really creative with their monsters
Mixing colours and materials
We had love birds and love blobs
Monsters of all shapes and sizes
A lovely way to talk about love
How everyone can love and be loved
No matter their colour, shape or size
Everybody needs somebody to love!
Hope you have enjoyed a peek at our activities for Valentine’s Day
Do let us know if you give any of them a try
Great ideas Jennie – thanks for the inspiration! Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your lovely family xx
Love these ideas. Winter has arrived for us in South Africa and with a lot more indoor time on our hands, I will make sure I stock up some of these basics. Thanks for sharing
