On a hot and sunny summer weekend
Our twins turned six
Their birthday request?
To go to Margate
And to Dreamland
Their wish was our command
After a lovely, calm and quiet morning
Playing with Hornby trains and racing Scalextric
We drove to the seafront
The roads were busy
Car parks over flowing
And you could not tell where the sand met the sea
The beach was horribly busy
Crowds of people swarming like locusts
Not our idea of fun
I started to worry that going to Dreamland
Was a bad, bad idea
But I need not have worried
Dreamland was, well, dreamy
It was not too busy
Not too noisy
It felt friendly and peaceful and slow
It felt like stepping back in time
To my own childhood
When places were bustling and lively
But not dangerously heaving
Dreamland provided space for little legs to run around
It gave grown ups time to breathe
It gave us quality fun family time
Perfect for a twin birthday celebration
Entry to Dreamland is now free
So it does not cost you a penny
To come in and look around
Play on the arcades
The arcades are great
Some penny machines I remember playing on
When I was a girl
But I am guessing if you come to Dreamland
You want to try out the rides
We were given complimentary wristbands in return for this review
But they are honestly not too badly priced
A family of four can access all the rides
As many times as they like
For around £40
I think this is good value for money
If your children like ours
Want to go on everything
Over and over again
You can purchase tokens
To pay per ride
If there are one or two specific things
That you have in mind
I think for our family
At least one adult
And two child wristbands
Would always be good value for money
I do wish that the adults could share a wristband
And take turns to ride with their children
We can never both go
When we have the baby to hold!
After the arcades
We headed to the big wheel
We like to do this first
To get an overview of the park
You can see across Margate from the top
And far out to sea
Bea was too little for the big wheel
So Daddy took her on the carousel
To ride a horse
After this we spent a lot of time
At the incredibly high and wavy
Rainbow slide
Esther marched up the steps first
All on her own
William went with Daddy the first time
Before racing Esther down
Time and time again
Bea went on the slide too
Sharing a mat with Daddy
And she loved it
Crying out again again!
After the rainbow slide we walked round
To the area specially set aside
For Dreamland’s smallest visitors
Here Bea was able to play with sand tables
And static buses and rockets
There was enough to keep her happy for ages
And all completely free
In this area though
With her wristband
Bea could also join Esther and William
On a double decker merry go round
And riding the Margate Dream Cars
The other rides Esther and William love are
The Ghost Train and The Flying Rockets
And The Caterpillar Rollercoaster
I am raising a trio of thrill seekers
Bea went on the rockets too!
We had such a lovely afternoon
Dreamland has a lovely, friendly, family feel
We really enjoyed our visit
And Esther and William are already asking
When we can go back again
If you are in Kent
And looking for a day of family fun this summer
Head to Dreamland, Margate
It is a little different
In a wonderful way
We received free ride wristbands in return for an honest review
