Last night we travelled to London
To Leicester Square
To see a special screening of The BFG
Esther and William were so excited
We all wanted to see how one of our favourite books
Would look on the big screen
Esther and William were very pleased that the film opened
With a London scene
That’s right, Mummy
The story is set in London
They instantly recognised Sophie
A fabulous character played brilliantly
It is impossible not to like her
And want to be her
The story starts quickly
We did not have to wait long
Before catching our first glimpse
Of The Big Friendly Giant
I love Mark Rylance
The voice of Bing
And he was fabulous in Wolf Hall
I could not wait to see his portrayal of The BFG
He was everything I hoped that he would be and more
The Big Friendly Giant
Played with warmth and humour
Love and a little loneliness
Shone through every twinkle of his eye
He was tender
And caring
And wonderfully confuddled and confused
You just wanted to hug him
And be his friend
The film is beautifully made
With just the right levels of
Humour, fear and frivolity
I absolutely loved when Sophie and The BFG
Met Her Majester The Queenie
The special effects throughout the film
Were very clever
And really brought Roald Dahl’s
Wonderful story to life
Esther and William loved the sequences when
BFG leaped and jumped to Giant Country
We all laughed at The BFG
Hiding in the shadows
Around London at night
We laughed at BFG’s funny wrds
And joined in with Sophie telling him what the proper words should be
William thought all the whizz poppers were hilarious
Especially when Her Majester’s corgis
Propel themselves across the palace floor
The other giants are quite menacing
But they are also quite funny
Esther and William get very emotionally entangle with movies
And they were not too frightened at any point of the film
So I think that the levels of fun and fear and wholesome morals
Are just right for this family movie
We really did love every moment of it
I loved the dream tree
I love the idea of catching dreams
Rather like shooting stars
But all the colours of the rainbow
The dream sequence was magical
The whole film has an air of wonder
And though a story
You do wonder if parts of it might just be true
David told Esther that The BFG is not real
But she does not believe him
She is choosing instead
To think that maybe, just maybe
Somewhere not too far from here
There is a Big Friendly Giant
Who is helping her have magnificent, beautiful, funny old dreams
Who is listening to all the wonders of the world
Hearts beating
Ants marching
Ladybirds dancing
Whispers of the wind
Tales of the trees
If your children love magic
If your children dream
If they love Roald Dahl or are you looking for a way to introduce them to his work
Go and see The BFG this summer
Huddle up close with your loved ones
“Let your love out”
And watch soemthing so scrumdiddlyumptious
You will want to see it again and again and again
Brilliantly funny
Family friendly
Got to be seen to be believed
“We is in Dream Country,’ the BFG said. ‘This is where all dreams is beginning.”
This is where all dreams is beginning
We were invited to a special screening of The BFG Movie for the purpose of this review
Thank you so much for this post on the BFG. I have been debating whether or not to take my own daughter and you have persuaded me that I must take her!!!
