So, Easter is all over
Only the not so popular chocolates remain
A long summer term lies ahead
Before the holidays again begin
Before you pack away your plastic eggs
You may want to keep an eye on the blog
For ideas and inspiration
For play and learning
Using plastic eggs
The Plastic Egg Project
Started with a phonics activity using CVC words
We have also tried Toppling Towers
Now I want to show you a very simple game
Called Letter Match
I wrote on each egg with permanent marker
A capital letter on one half
A little letter on the other half
The game is to match each capital letter
With the corresponding little or lower case letter
This is a great ‘eggtivity’ for learning letter names
Learning letter sounds
Becoming familiar with the shapes of letters
You can extend the activity to ask children to practise
The formation of the letters they find
This is a good game for thinking about the vocabulary we use
When we talk about letters, handwriting and reading
This game can be linked to Jolly Phonics actions
To make the game more physical
You could have the eggs laid out around the room
So children can search and find and match
You could use different coloured eggs for vowels and consonants
There are many many ways to extend and adapt this game
I am looking forward to revisiting this one lots
During our Summer of Play
It is great for Esther and William
As the physical act of putting the eggs together
Develops their fine motor skills
I wondered how much Esther and William would enjoy this task
I am pleased to report that they loved it
We talked and laughed
Sang Jolly Phonics songs
And I was very proud of my little preschoolers
Very proud indeed
