For the last two months
Bea has been enjoying Mega Blok play
She loves the brightly coloured plastic blocks
They are big enough for her to grab onto
And chew safely
The design means they are easy for her to keep hold of
And she can manipulate them with ease
Bea loves to sit with a box of Mega Bloks
Take them all out of the box
And put them back in again
One of her favourite things to do
Is pack and unpack her Blok box
Sometimes we have two boxes and together we
Move the blocks from one box to another
We only have a small collection of Mega Bloks
They are all decorated with letters, numbers and pictures
So they are interesting to look at
They are also great for Esther and William
Now aged 4
As they use them to practice spelling and simple number sentences
For Bea it is about examining the blocks
With her eyes, her hands and her teeth
For Bea it is about moving the blocks from place to place
It is about banging blocks together
Or shaking the box to hear them rattle and bang against one another
For Bea it is about gnawing
The blocks and the box!
Bea loves to watch me and her older siblings
Playing with blocks
She loves bashing down towers
Bea will crawl around the room
To get to strategically placed blocks
This has been great fun
And a wonderful way to develop her gross motor skills
Blocks are perfect for early fine motor skill development too
Grasping the blocks, holding onto them
Banging them together
And passing from one hand to the other
When we get the Mega Bloks out we sit together on the Cosyplay mat
Until 6 months I used our Theraline pregnancy pillow as a nest for Bea
To support her new sitting skill
Bea sat very early so was quite wobbly for a while
At almost 8 months Bea is sitting confidently 7
Crawling at speed around the house
And cruising the furniture
She loves being on the floor
And the cushioned Cosyplay mat has offered protection
Making her and I braver at trying new things
Like standing and crawling and cruising!
The Bloks are a daily feature in Bea’s play
They are a great fun way to play
And through play Bea is building strength and coordination
Fine and gross motor skills
And she is learning to communicate too
We love our Bloks
And I am looking forward to many more months of learning through play
Soon we will start to think about introducing concepts
Such as colour and size
And soon Bea will start to begin to make towers of her own
What lovely photos! Our little one loved stickle bricks and would try and stick every one together. Sophie — http://www.workingmotheroftheyear.com
