Today is World Prematurity Day
It is a day that fills me with every emotion
Pride that my 27 weekers are now 4 year old school children
Fear that we do not yet know how prematurity will affect them as they grow
Anger that my premature babies survived but my term baby did not
Guilt that my premature babies survived when many others did not
Anxiety that an ordinary illness for many could be something so much worse for mine
As I write this William is crying out in his sleep as he coughs
I will not sleep well tonight
My heart is heavy with fear and worry
Today is World Prematurity Day
It is a day for raising awareness
A day of remembrance
A day of giving something back
Esther and William are only alive today
Thanks to the medicines, machines and medical professionals that kept them going
In their earliest days
All around the UK
Amazing doctors and nurses
Work with our premature babies
Keeping them alive
Teaching them how to live
Medicating and caring
Recording and researching
Supporting parents
Many who have become parents for the first time
Too soon
Navigating unknown territory
Filled with fear
Many who lose their babies
And somehow have to learn to carry on
Somehow have to leave the hospital for good
Without a baby in their arms
Today is World Prematurity Day
We celebrate and commemorate
ALL babies born too sick, too small, too soon
ALL premature babies everywhere
If you have had a premature baby

i would like to win it for my local hospital because I had a miscarriage last year when I was 9 weeks pregnant and people don’t care about things until it happens to them. I am 26 weeks now and praying that my baby cooks for 40 weeks. But I want to show my support by raising awareness of premature babies and their families.

All four of my babies were born there but my first was cared for there 8 years ago 🙂

Simpsons in Edinburgh as they saved my daughter’s life, many times. She was born weighing only 650g at 28+2 and is now 4 and a half.
Simpson Special Care in Edinburgh has help so many of my friends when their babies needed extra care after birth, particularly my wonderful niece who was born at 28 weeks – if it wasnt for the brilliant staff and care available at Simpsons she might not be the thriving 4 year old we know today 🙂
I would donate this bundle to the NICU at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester if I won as they have helped a few friends of mine and I used to work there as a secretary.
I would donate this bundle to the Winnicott Baby Unit at St Mary’s Hospital in London.
They took very good care of my little 32 weeker and gave her the best start possible.
I would to win this for Derby Royal hospital – I was in hospital on bed rest from 20 weeks due to severe bleeding and then my son was born and looked after fantastically there. He spent 79 days in hospital, coming home a week before his due date.
I would love to donate to NICU Queens Hospital in Romford who saved my beautiful baby boys life when he was born 10wks early almost 3 yrs ago. They are AMAZING !!!!
I would like to win this for Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, who looked after my son when he was born there ten years ago at 34 weeks. I had to borrow clothes from the hospital for my son at the time, so it would be lovely to win something like this for them.
