For the last couple of months we have been making the most of the unseasonably warm weather
And testing a rather lovely wooden sandpit
The wooden pit was delivered as lots of pieces of wood, some screws and fittings and a sheet of instructions
David built the sandpit in a little over an hour
Thankfully he is very good at that kind of thing
And had the requisite tools
We positioned the pit in the garden
And for the first few weeks we used it without sand
Has a hinged wooden lid that folds back to make two seats
Esther and William had a wonderful time sitting on the seats
Enjoying snacks and storytime
They also liked lying down in the pit and closing the lid
Another favourite activity has been standing on the closed lid
Using the wooden sandpit as a stage
Esther and William had so much fun with this
Before they even realised that it was for sand
Since filling it with sand
It has been used all the more
Particularly by William
Who just loves to fill it with trucks, cranes and diggers
Vehicles and machines of any kind
When William has had a busy day at school
He likes to come home
Kick off his shoes and play in the sand
He loves to play Octonauts
And go on adventures with his dinosaurs and trains
Esther enjoys sand play too
She will happily work alongside William
With construction vehicles
Or embark on her own fantasy small world play
Esther loves the seats on this Wickey sandpit
They are great for sitting on
But can also be used to make animal dens
Or shelters in play
The best things we have used our sandpit for are treasure hunts
Esther and William love searching the sand for treasure
They especially enjoyed our recent pirate day
Over the coming weeks and months
I am looking forward to getting outside with Esther and William
And playing in the sand
In our beautiful wooden sandpit from Wickey
We will be sharing some of our best autumn and winter sand ideas here
And in the meantime here are some of the posts I already have about Sand Play
“You are troubled at seeing him spend his early years in doing nothing. What! Is it nothing to be happy? Is it nothing to skip, play, and run around all day long? Never in his life will he be so busy as now.”
Jean-Jacques Rousseau,
Émile: Or, Concerning Education, 1883
Happy Sand Play!
We were sent one wooden sandpit from Wickey for the purpose of this review
Thanks for the review. Does it have a bottom to the sandpit? We are looking for one with a lid and a base. Most seem to have one or the other.
Thanks
This has a large ground sheet that goes under the wooden frame, it keeps the sand drier and stops weeds and worms. You have to buy it separately though x Would be great to have a sandpit with an integral solid base wouldn’t it? x x x
Looks great, might look into getting a sandpit some time next year as we are finally getting a house with a garden. Can’t wait for the boys to have fun outside without having to make an outing! x
