I cannot believe how long it is taking me to type up all our Fairy Week activities
I think I will start with a quick recap of the activities I have shared so far
Sensory Soup and Water Bead Tea
Glass and Mirrors Fairy Village
And there are still two more to come
But for now
Let me tell you about when we made tiny sugar cube towers
Esther and William love small scale sensory play at the moment
I often make them something in a baking tray for when they get home from school
This activity was just half a box of sugar cubes and a baking tray
We talked about how tiny fairies live at the bottom of the garden
We talked about their houses are much smaller than ours
We talked about how everything fairy is smaller than everything human
I told them that they were going to be builders
Making things with their sparkly sugary bricks
For fairy land
A magical land of fairies at the bottom of our garden
Esther and William enjoy making things
William in particular likes ordering things
Making lines and measuring them
Counting objects and counting them again
I asked William the other day what he would like to be when he grows up
And he said, ‘The person who checks the numbers’
William built walls with his sugar cubes
To keep the fairies safe in fairy land
He counted the bricks
Organised them into lines
Compared the lines
And counted them again
Esther made towers
Rapunzel towers
The towers of fairy tales
Esther is all about the magical
William the logical
I love watching Esther and William play
The way they interact with each other
They extend their play in different ways
Independently and together
It is fascinating to see
How they interpret and use the same materials so differently
This was not a long activity
Esther and William were soon ready to move on
Esther noticed that the cubes were crumbling
She used the granules for mark making
Before we decided to go outside
To the water table
To learn about melting and dissolving
