Esther and William love a treasure hunt
So what better way to kick off our pirate week than embarking on a hunt
For pirate gold!
Using a copy of the map David made for our Rainbow Star Hunt
I added stickers and numbers at key places on the map
Indicating the places around the garden that I had hidden gold (chocolate) coins
Esther and William had to find each of the 9 coins
In order from 1 – 9
They had to use their maps to find the treasure
Esther and William love maps
They often have pretend maps in their play
And it is one of the few things that William will attempt to draw
Both Esther and William understand that the picture map
Represents our garden
And with help they can use it to find things that are hidden
This pirate treasure hunt started at number one
In Baby Tilda’s garden
From there the trail led to the back garden
Up Makka Pakka’s steps
Past the crooked house
And onto the sky train
At each numbered spot
Were two gold coins
Esther and William worked together
To read their maps
And find their treasure
The hunt was a lot of fun
And a lot of learning was done
Numbers, directions, positional language, prepositions
Working together, communication
The pirate treasure trail ended up back in Baby Tilda’s garden
Where the final reward for finishing the trail
Was enormous and delicious
We have lots more activities planned for our Pirate Week including water play and construction and finishing with a Friday Finale for Talk Like A Pirate Day
We will also be sharing a pirate themed book list over at Beebies Baby Store on Friday
We hope that you will join us
