So back in March we started potty training with William
In earnest
We had tried a bit before without success
But when Spring came we were determined to crack it
And to his credit after a testing few weeks
He got it
But it was an incredibly expensive process
As he was rewarded not with stickers or sweets
But with Octonauts toys!
Over the course of three months
We have amassed most of the Under Sea Crew
And many of their Gups
The collection will be added to on their birthday at the end of the month
And we have had two Octonauts Toys from Fisher Price to review
Esther and William love Octonauts
And it is one of the very few television programmes that they are able to watch
We do not watch live television
This is something that we can watch at anytime using iplayer or You Tube
After watching just a couple of episodes
Esther and William were hooked
They love the characters
The Octonauts themselves
They also love learning about different ocean creatures and habitats
I think that they know more about under the sea
Than I do!
Esther and William regularly enter the world of the ocean
In their water play, their imaginary play and their small world play
They act out scenes from the television, books and magazines
They make up their own stories involving the characters and creatures that they know
Esther is always Peso
William loves Tweak but also Dashy
He is really good at putting on their voices
Including accents
I am certain he is going to one day be on the stage
Here are Esther and William and The Octonauts
We were sent two of these toys from Fisher Price to review
Tweak’s Octo Max Suit and The Gup R Sailfish
The Octo Max Suit is fabulous.
Tweak’s Octo-Max suit is as strong as a Gup and fully equipped for midnight zone missions. This special deep sea suit has lights, sounds, a rescue claw and an air-powered carrot launcher. Includes Tweak figure, Octo Max Suit, gulper eel, removable carrot launcher & four carrots.
The Octo Max Suit is played with lots here but as with many of the Octonauts toys that we own it is used in it’s simplest form. Esther and William do not launch the carrots, they do not even really use the sounds they like to make Tweak and the suit interact with their other toys but they enjoy making the noises themselves.
The Fisher Price Octonauts toys are really well made with a range of different functions. We love that the characters and accessories are so true to the books and the television show.
In our house it is a huge bonus that they toys can actually be used in the water. Makes them great for bath time, kelp forests and paddling pool play!
Esther and William love collecting Gups. They have become the toys that we take with us everywhere. Each Gup comes with one of the Octonaut characters and some accessories. Esther loves to collect all the toys that come with a Peso figure. One of her favourites is Peso’s Medical Room which is an add on for the rather fabulous Octopod!
William loves the Gup X. This is three vehicles within one meaning it is great value for money providing hours upon hours of Octonauts play.
It is wonderful watching Esther and William set up their missions. In the playroom, in holiday homes and hotels, in the garden, in the bath … They set up scenarios, loosely based on things that they have seen on TV or read about in stories. Their level of vocabulary and subject knowledge is really very impressive considering the fact that they are only three.
Esther and William love the toys that can be used in water. Gup B has a great water squirter function that causes much hilarity in the bath. The Deep Sea Octo Buggy also has a squirter.
Esther and William enjoy the sounds made by some of the larger toys as they are true to the TV show. However, I do not think their enjoyment of the toys would be lessened if the sounds were no longer there.
When we first started purchasing Octonauts toys I was worried that they seemed very expensive but after a few months of building our collection I can tell you that the high quality of the toys and the authenticity of them is consistent and they do provide hours of entertainment and fun.
Our newest addition, sent to us by Fisher Price, is the Gup R Sailfish Mode. This is a great Gup that can be used in and out of water. It has a rescue buoy that Esther and William love to use on their search and rescue missions to tow other Gups from danger and into safe waters. The rescue line can be deployed by pushing down the windscreen. The Sailfish fin pops up giving the Gup more speed. Esther and William love the interactivity of this Octonauts toy.
The Octonauts are a great way for children to learn about ocean habitats. Esther and William can identify so many different creatures of the sea and tell you factual information about them. They can talk confidently about the life cycle of a turtle and tell you all about the Mariana Trench.
The TV shows, books and the accompanying toys are great for inspiring educational, imaginary play.
We are still building our collection and play with each of the toys most days.
Do you, or your little one, have a favourite Octonauts toy?
We were sent a Gup R and an Octo Max Suit for the purpose of this review.
Jennie, that’s a lovely review. Great pictures too. On my blog I’m giving away a family ticket to the new stage show that is touring the UK from Oct. I can’t imagine how they will bring it to the stage – it is a great TV production isn’t it?! It sounds like it will be amazing.
Hope things are going smoothly with Rainbow xx
