How To Catch A Star: Ten for Ten Part Eight

Today was Mothers’ Day

A day when children spoil their mummies

Not all of my children are here

One is growing nicely in my tummy

The other gone too soon

To her playground in the sky

I wanted today to be about all our children

One of the things we did

Was a Rainbow Star Hunt

And it was wonderful

rainbow star hunt

Round and round the garden

Esther and William raced

Searching for rainbow coloured stars

round and round the garden

This was a lovely family activity

And was so simple to set up and do

I cut out 10 rainbow stars

5 for Esther and 5 for William

David drew a map of the garden

Esther and William are obsessed with treasure maps

From watching Octonauts

They draw treasure maps everywhere

Every piece of paper they find

Scrap of tree bark

Everything becomes a map

So David drew a pictorial map of the garden

William immediately recognised the house

And from there they worked out what everything was

On the map in relation to what is in the garden

I was really impressed with their ability to read the map

To make the translation

So armed with the map to annotate

With stickers

I went off to hide the stars

map and stars

Once each pair of stars were in their hiding place

I put a sticker on the map

To help Esther and William find them

And then they were off

Map in hand

Daddy to guide them

Round and round the garden

Trying to catch a star

Trying to catch a rainbow of stars

And they loved it

map reading

Running round

Searching

Finding

Collecting

Reading their map

Talking

Collaborating

And they found them

With a little help

They found them all

In the greenhouse

On the trampoline

On the dragon pile

(wood chips from the big big tree)

On the blue slide (roof box)

And at the garden gate

What a wonderful way

To spend an afternoon

Trying to catch a star

Trying to catch a rainbow of stars
