How To Catch A Star: Ten For Ten Part Seven

Our first day playing with our water table, nearly three years ago, we knew it was going to bring years of fun.

We were not wrong.

star water play

As soon as the sun poked its head round the corner of the curtains this morning

Today was destined to be a day of water play

We unearthed the water table from it’s resting place

Beneath the Tuff Spot Dinosaur Swamp

Daddy scrubbed it for us

Two seasons worth of grot and grime

And then we filled it with water

We filled it with stars

And we played in the water

The stars sparkling in the sunshine

Glittering in the water

As they do in the sky

sparkly stars

Esther and William were so excited

It was wonderful to take our water play outside

We had sieves and colanders

Fishing nets

Watering cans

Sea creature squirters

And bundles and bundles of imagination

excited to be outside

Esther and William fished for stars

They splashed and squirted one another

Squealing with joy

They acted out scenes from Octonauts

They poured and filled and emptied and sprinkled

I love watching Esther and William play

They have always been water babies

And we have always experimented

With ways of extending and enhancing our play

Adding colour

Adding creatures

Adding flavours and smells

Adding context

Adding stars

The coloured stars in the water

Add a little interest to our play

It makes it clearer to see if a cup is empty or full

The stars glisten as the water pours

The stars can be collected

Can be counted and sorted

The stars add so many new things

To your basic water play

Esther and William played with the water all day

As the sun moved we moved

All the way round our garden

To keep the stars sparkling like diamonds

To keep our skin warmed by the sun

Today we had a wonderful day

Playing with the stars

It made me smile

To think that this is how Baby Tilda

Spends all of her days

Our beautiful star of the sea

  1. Looks like W & E had great fun fishing for their stars today. Absolutely love the picture of Esther looking at William. There is such love between them. x x

  2. How lovely to look back and see little baby Esther and William. It amazes me how well they seem to play together – my 2.5 yr old twin boys do nothing but fight over EVERYTHING and can rarely play together without chaos ensuing! xx

  3. Goodness me E&W has nearly 1 year olds cannot believe how much they have changed! And great to see they haven’t lost their love for water play either. Adore this idea, Jennie. Using glitter stars in water play is so simple but works very well too. 🙂
