This week we did our messy play for this post nice and early, we did it on Wednesday and I am STILL late!!
My apologies I had a very busy weekend at The Baby Show.
Earlier in the week things were much calmer and we were able to spend some special time doing this.
Making a fantasy island with a pink and purple water bead sea and a star strewn sand made with star shaped baby pasta and coloured sugar stars. We also made a marshmallow wall to protect the starry island from the pink and purple sea.
Esther and William had requested ‘icky sticky ooey gooey water beads’ and that is exactly what they got.
Before I made the island in the Tuff Spot Esther and William spent some time exploring the water beads and the star mix.
We all love the feel of water beads and the contrast of the dry, crispy, crunchy star sand was lovely to experience and talk about.
We talked about who might live on such an island – fairies, giant rabbits, dragons and dinosaurs, were just a few of the offered inhabitants.
There was lots of splashing and squelching in the sea.
Lots of crunching and scrunching on the sugary sand.
After a while the tide began to creep in over the starry shoreline and the sea mingled with the sand.
The pasta got softer and the sugar stickier until we were well and truly getting stickily stuck in to true true messy play.
Icky sticky oooey goooey water beads!
Just what the children ordered!
Lots of messy fun was had by all and even more fun will be had when we scrub and splash in soapy suds as we have a toy wash in the morning.
We have had lots of fun this week learning through our messy play.
We talked about textures and appearance of different materials, we learned about cause and effect. We acted out stories and developed our storytelling skills. We shared toys nicely and worked together to make the most of our small world play.
What have you been learning and playing this week?
We would love to know.
Come and link up any messy and sensory play posts here in memory of Matilda Mae.
Thank you x
Fab idea, will pin right now! Mel
This looks soooo delicious! I don’t think my two children would have been able to restrain themselves from gobbling up those marshmallows….
What a fab idea, love all of the different colours x
