Back in June we reviewed a Wonderworld Trix Trax set for The Toadstool.
The lovely team at DKL Toys have been wondering how we are getting on with the Trix Trax and offered to send us a second set to add to our original one.
You can read our original review here for the Spin and Swirl Set.
The last few weeks we have been testing the The Hammer Slammer.
Trix Trax is great for bringing the family together with purpose for fun. Daddy loves building these tracks and seeing what they do as much as Esther and William do.
Building a complex ball track can be quite a challenge with twin toddlers lending their helping hands!
Esther and William adore Trix Trax.
They love getting the sets out, building the tracks and setting the wooden balls on their journeys. They are learning to be patient when the tracks take a while to set up. They are also starting to become more involved in the process of putting the pieces together.
The Hammer Slammer is quite complex to set up and with little hands helping it takes longer to put together than it takes the balls to travel along the route.
This does not seem to worry Esther and William who ask for it again and again and again.
They love getting the balls into the correct position and watching them clip, clop, trip, trap, roll and drop along the tracks.
William narrates what happens and his balls are always named after engines from Thomas. Obviously!
The beautiful wooden ball tracks are lovely to look at and they have great educational play value too.
Building the tracks develops fine motor skills, planning tracks develops prediction skills and understanding of cause and effect.
I love asking Esther and William, if we change this what will happen to this? If we add that, what will happen to this?
I love giving them all the bits of the track and seeing how they try and piece it together.
We have two sets now both of which are complicated to construct.
For Esther and William to get the most out of Trix Trax they now need some simpler pieces so that they can learn how to create tracks themselves, extend them and adapt them.
I think we will get Throw and Roll next, it would be good to have two of these actually so that they can play individually and also create one great big track.
I think that Trix Trax sets are perfect presents for children aged 4 and up. They are great for our little three year olds but with a lot of adult supervision. I cannot wait to see a year from now how Esther and William’s Trix Trax journey has developed as I am certain they will continue to get more and more satisfaction and enjoyment from these beautiful, traditional toys.
The Trix Trax sets from Wonderworld are not cheap but they are investment pieces to be handed down and they also look great on display.
“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

We were sent one Trix Trax set for the purpose of this review by DKL Toys.
I will have to try and remember this for next Christmas I think!
