For the last couple of weeks we have been ‘Toad’ testing the Haba Discovery Set: Round and Round.
This set costs £41.80 and consists of 3 basic wheel chassis, 1 set of wheels, 2 effect balls, 1 spinning top, 6 coloured and patterned disks to spin, 8 barrels, and 1 ringing roll.
The set is for older toddlers and young children to grab hold of and explore the different colours, patterns, textures and motions that can be made.
With this set you can create many different things and experiment with optics and movement. It is a great toy for children with imagination and a sense of adventure.
It is a great set for introducing simple problem solving tasks.
I assumed that this set would be a winner with William but I was surprised by how much Esther enjoyed playing with it and how long she was able to stay focused on her chosen experiment or task.
Esther like taking the wheels from one chassis and attaching them to another. The wheels are easy to move from one object to another. We made cars, train engines, seesaws on wheels and much more.
Esther and William use this set during their quiet times. They are happy to sit together and try out different things. The wheels can become a source of frustration. With two children it would have been nice to have two sets of wheels. I think for William’s birthday box he would really love this to complement our current set and allow him to build trains!!
The Round and Round Discovery Set from Haba includes a spinning top which is great for seeing how patterns change when they are spinning, how lines can blur and colours can merge.
This set is great for thinking about how things move and for exploring forces such as push and pull.
The language used by Esther and William while playing with the Haba Discovery Set was lovely.
Spinning, turning, twisting, rolling, moving, round and round, circle, pattern, colour, fast, slow.
This is a set of discovery and can also be a great basis for creating imaginary creatures and vehicles.
Esther and William both found the colour pattern disks fascinating and attached them to the spinning top and the ringing roll.
Esther and William both like making things go. They like to expect and examine and discover how things work. They understand cause and effect. They like trying to make things move faster or slower. They like to work out how to attach one thing to another. They are problem solvers, they like to ask and answer their own questions. They are curious. They are toddlers.
Esther and William also both used this set for exploring balance and thinking about how different shapes can fit together. They made towers and tried stacking the different objects in different ways. I love watching my children learning through their play with quality products such as this Discovery Set from Haba.
Haba produce beautiful toys and this set is no exception. Each piece is sturdy and beautifully crafted. The colours are bright and attractive for toddler hands and eyes.
As a way of exploring how to make things move and an introduction to optical illusions this is a wonderful set and would make a great gift for any inquisitive, curious mind.
A hit from Haba in our house.
Another great product stocked at The Toadstool UK.
We were given one Haba Discovery Set Round and Round for the purpose of this review.
It looks great, a complete toy box in a toy. I love things like that because they’re great for taking away for holidays or day trips or if you have to go to appointments 🙂
