The snow has now all melted in our garden but just before the final thaw we brought some inside to paint on.
I put some rather icy snow into our very well used metal roasting tins and got out some brushes and poster paints.
Esther and William were both keen to have a go at painting snow but it was Esther who really got involved with this activity. She used so much paint and got really creative with her snow.
We talked about colour mixing and how she was able to make purple and brown from her red, blue and yellow paints. She liked this a lot.
Esther liked the feel of the paint on the snow. She also liked it as the snow and ice began to melt.
She talked about creating ponds and lakes with her painty snow.
I loved this activity and the time it gave me to talk with my daughter about what she was doing.
It was lovely to watch her and how engrossed she was with the activity. She really was enjoying what we were doing.
This was a great activity for learning about colour mixing and changing materials. The language used was scientific as well as creative.
But most of all we had fabulous family fun!
Oh and as with all our activities, it involved some searching for The Gruffalo and William NEEDING lots of things!!
Another fab idea, we painted the snow outside, but wouldn’t have thought to bring it inside 🙂 x http://www.mummypinkwellies.com/2013/01/snow-day-play-snow-painting-and-ice-marbles/
