When the parcel arrived from our friends at Toyjeanius, Esther was quick to claim the box as her own. She knew that whatever was inside was going to be fun and exciting and perfectly suited to us and the things that we know and like. My daughter was not wrong!
We had been sent a fantastic Djeco Vehicles Screwing Set.
The set consists of four chunky wooden vehicles that toddlers will recognise straight away – a car, tractor, fire engine and aeroplane. The colourful vehicles have screwholes and the idea is to match the various wheels, ladder and propellor to the correct vehicle. Pre-school children will be kept amused as they screw and unscrew the interchangeable parts. This fun wooden puzzle encourages the development of hand/eye co-ordination and problem solving skills.
I laid the puzzle out for Esther and William so that they could match the parts to the vehicles. They quickly matched the smaller wheels to the car and the one large wheel to the tractor. They were a bit confused at first that the smaller wheel on the tractor did not also come off but understand now that this wheel is only a picture.
Both Esther and William like the aeroplane best and I think that it is because the propeller is easy to hold and to turn.
Esther and William are just learning the concept of left and right. They know that when we drive to school we turn right on to the main road and when we drive home from school we turn left off of the main road. Right to school and left for home.
They also know their right hands and feet from their left hands and feet thanks to a song we sing at Fun Train.
Now with the help of the Djeco Vehicles Screwing Set and their Great Aunty Carolyn they are also beginning to know that when you screw a screw it is right to screw it tight and left to make it loose. Righty Tighty and Lefty Lucy!
The chunky wooden vehicles are beautifully painted. Esther and William love to handle them with and without their rotating parts. Matilda also loves to explore the shapes, mostly with her gums!!
This is a great activity for developing knowledge of vehicles, shape knowledge, fine motor skills and understanding the concept of left and right. Esther and William also like to point out things like the tractor has a small wheel at the front and a larger wheel at the back. They also chat about design and colour. The activity when completed with an adult, or your twin, encourages chat.
Esther and William are at the wonderful age where they begin to explore imaginary play and so they make the drivers of the vehicles talk and they make glorious Nee Naw sounds as the push the fire engine along.
This 9 piece activity set has practical applications and plenty of creative play and story telling potential too.
This is great gift idea for boys and girls this Christmas.
You can buy it from Toyjeanius for £19.95 and start teaching your little one Tighty Righty and Lucy Lefty today x
