When Esther and William were born at 27 weeks they spent 59 long days in special care. They were in an incubator for much of this time. At first they could not wear clothes as they were kept in humidity to protect their fragile skin as their tiny bodies continued to grow and develop. The womb is a warm, moist place and their incubator environment tried to replicate this.
When they were strong enough to come out of humidity and into warm, dry air it was a time for celebration. Our babies were then allowed blankets and once they no longer needed so many complex medical procedures carried out each day, they were also allowed to wear clothes.
Finding clothes for them was really hard. At this time in their little lives Esther only weighed 2lb 12oz and William was 3lb 7oz. It was not just a matter of popping out to Mothercare!
The hospital had clothes that we were allowed to use and I have to say that mostly this is what we did. But I was their Mummy and I wanted to choose what they wore. I wanted to be able to buy my babies some clothes.
And so I did. Thanks to Teddy and Me.
Teddy and Me are the UK’s leading premature and tiny baby clothing company and are devoted to designing beautiful clothes for precious tiny bundles from just 400g.
Teddy & Me garments fit perfectly and are designed to be practical and comfortable, in fact they were developed with the help and advice of neonatal specialists; and mums of special care babies.
Our designs have proved to be so popular amongst parents that we now offer sizes up to six months of age, allowing larger full term babies to feel warm and comfy too.
Esther and William wore these sleepsuits and rompers throughout their time in NICU and SCBU and we bought larger sizes for when we went home. The clothing is so soft and designed to fit teeny tiny bodies.
It was comforting to know that somebody had cared enough to make such a special range of clothing for our babies.
Designed to take into consideration any leads, drips or monitors your baby may have, they’re comfortable, practical and correctly sized.
Special attention has been given to all aspects of our range, from silky soft wash care labels that are positioned away from baby’s delicate skin; to the soft flat seaming which adorns our clothes.
Esther and William wore these clothes most days. They were warm and comfortable. The clothes did not chafe or irritate their precious skin. They were perfect. And they looked so cute. I was able to dress my babies and beam with pride at how beautiful they looked in clothes that fit them in just the right way. No more folded up sleeves and empty footed sleepsuits. Teddy and Me clothes were just right for my tiny precious bundles.
Teddy and Me not only sell clothing for premature and tiny babies but they also provide The Tiny Traveller which we used every single day once we were finally allowed to bring our babies home.
At less than 5lbs each Esther and William were no bigger than dolls. They were swallowed up by cots, carseats and swings. Their blankets drowned them and their pram was just far too big. To keep them safe and secure and for our own peace of mind we swore by our Tiny Travellers.
The Tiny Traveller®is a unique baby car carrier that fits snugly into first stage car seats to keep tiny babies safe, secure and comfortable. The Tiny Traveller®not only fits all first stage car seats, but can be used in pushchairs and baby swings. It’s even versatile enough to be used in all terrain buggies, to keep little one safe and secure. It provides invaluable head, back and tummy support to provide protection as well as additional comfort for small babies.
Teddy and Me improved the quality of our lives in those very early days. They allowed me to do things for my babies just like a mother should. I will always be grateful for that.
Teddy and Me have generously agreed to offer a prize bundle to one Edspire reader.

Your story is so touching and your babies are just gorgeous! My sister recently had twin girls delivered at 32 weeks by emergency caesarean section as one twin was in distress. The stress and strains of having premature babies is just indescribable so I’d love to be able to offer this prize as a gift to her and my 2 beautiful neices. I know it would be much appreciated in such a difficult time so thank you to you and Teddy and Me for offering such lovely prizes.
Following both twitter pages @sarah34090 and I have tweeted the message.

I can definatley relate to your comment about finding it comforting knowing that somebody cared enough to make these wonderful items of clothing for premature babies. My daughter in law is in a similar predicament with her 2nd child and I know she’s been finding it difficult to find clothes for her son as he is so small. Thank you for sharing your story and these precious photos.
