Esther and William have been walking now for about two months. I would say that they have only been really going confidently for about three weeks.
For the last week or so we have been testing out a fabulous invention, the Boomerein from Kool Kangaroos!
The Boomerien is
A retractable child safety rein that clips easily between you and your children around the waist using adjustable straps, allowing them to stick close to you, while you can carry on using both hands to get on with your day.
It’s the first of its kind in the UK and whether you’re at the supermarket, the doctors, the beach, the park or crossing the road – it offers, safe, reliable, innovative help to busy mums and dads on the go.
We have used the reins a few times now and for the moment my opinion about them is mixed. I think this is because Esther and William are such new walkers and are not always steady on their feet. Like a boomerang they do come back often flat on their backs hitting their heads on the pavement! This is not a fault in the product at all but just a lack of experience and stability in our little toddlers.
The idea of the reins is a fabulous one. I love the fact that in a few more weeks, with a little more practise, I will be able to confidently take Esther and William out on my own keeping them close by me with the reins and leaving my hands free to stabilise one twin or the other if required.
I have not yet worn the adult belt as I have a rather large Baby Bump! Daddy has been the tester. Esther and William get very excited when they see Daddy with his belt on and if he takes it off at any point during our walk Esther in particular is very keen that he put it back on. Safety first!
Both Esther and William love wearing their belts and get very excited when we get them out in preparation for leaving the house. They actually enjoy just wearing them around the house and Esther likes practising doing up her safety clip.
It is very easy to put the belts on and even easier to attach the reins to the harnesses. You can literally just clip and go.
For our first test run we just all walked around the house. There was quite a bit of tumbling and tangling, mostly I think from lack of coordination and space.
For our second outing we went for a walk near to Granny’s house. This was more successful as Esther and William had more space. We tried having one toddler each side of Daddy and also both on the same side. There were longer periods of solid, safe walking this time.
The reins do give you security and freedom and we will persevere with them as Esther and Wiliam become more accomplished walkers.
We used them again yesterday as we went for a walk around our village. When we got to the green we were able to unclip the reins but Daddy and Babies kept their special belts on. It was so simple to do and it was wonderful just being able to continue on our way knowing that at the first sign of danger we could all very quickly and easily reattach.
The reins, with a little more time and patience, I think will make life much easier for us in weeks and months to come as Esther and William continue on their toddling journey.
I will continue to update our reviews of the Boomerein as we continue to use them and gain our confidence. I am very keen to try the belt myself too as I may well have more success than Daddy!
I am certain that they are going to prove a valuable resource for us especially when Matilda becomes a baby rather than a bump! I will need a way of getting everyone to the park and the thought of loading up the buggy every time is not one that I relish.
I know that other people have used them and found them to be fabulous and I am confident that eventually we will too.
You can read another review of the Boomerein here and also see testimonials on their website. Please do follow our progress with the reins as I promise to update our thoughts and photos as we toddle on.
If you would like to try the Boomerein (such a great name!) for yourself then they are available to buy online for £15.95.
We recieved one Boomerein parent belt and two child belts with reins for the purposes of this review.
