So yesterday was The Royal Wedding. I have to say that I had not really paid much attention to the build up but as soon as I woke up on Friday morning I just knew that I had to be part of this very special day. I put BBC News on my laptop and watched the morning unfold.
London looked glorious, the crowds were gathering and in good spirits, there was definitely a sense of magic and communion in the air.
Esther and William are too young to have any understanding of what was was going on but I wanted them too to have memories, or evidence, of the day. One day they will be asked, “Where were you when the King got married?”
Well, Esther and William, this record of our day is for you.
We got up and played in the lounge with the news on in the background. I was explaining to you who people were as they arrived at Westminster Abbey. Many in rather funny looking hats!
I dressed you in your very special Royal Wedding bodysuits and your wedding outfits, reprised from Aunty Julie’s wedding, and then we speculated about THAT dress!
Hannah arrived to come with us to Baby Sensory. We left in good time today because we knew that the telly would be on in the hall and we would be able to see the arrival of the bride and THAT dress.
In spite of myself I was quite emotional about the proceedings thinking that in just a few short months it will be me preparing to walk down the aisle! I wonder if our guests wuill be camping out the night before to see us in our horse and carriage?
We arrived at Baby Sensory and Julie, the course leader, had done a wonderful job of setting up the hall with a Cool Britannia theme and the telly was on!
We settled down on an inflatable mattress covered with a silky union jack to watch the arrival of the bride.
She looked wonderful, stunning, demure, beautiful, like a true princess. Her sister looked incredibly good too!
With the bride safely up the aisle and side by side with her prince, the Baby Sensory session got under way.
We had such fun!
A fanfare announced the start of this special royal wedding session.
We all joined together in a circle to play the wedding bells and see the teddy bear bride and groom walk up the aisle. We saw teddy bride and groom have their first dance and we all danced under the magical wedding arch. We had balloons and flags and cupcakes. We had a whole lot of fun!
During independent play we rested on red, white and blue cushions eating cupcakes and catching glimpses of the glitterati and the royals as the ceremony and celebrations continued.
What a lovely way to spend the day.
A royal wedding to remember. Thank you Julie!
After the ceremony and the Baby Sensory had ended you (Esther and William) had a good long nap before going out with Daddy in the afternoon for a walk to fly his kite.
England has a new princess and we had a wonderful time to celebrate such a happy occasion and to make sure that we will always know where we were when the king got married!
What a lovely way to spend the Royal Wedding day and a super well written reminder for your children when they’re older. X
Looks like you had a fabulous time. Very cute that the teddies got married. Twins look gorgeous.
We do Baby Sensory too and had our Royal Wedding session on Wednesday. It was hilarious. Frog spent the entire session trying to eat a Union Jack flag and was entirely disinterested in the teddy bride and groom. Looks like she’s not much of a Royalist…
Oh how funny! William also spent much of the time chewing a flag! I kept those photos just for us though x
