“Nothing is impossible. The word itself says, ‘I’m possible!'”
Audrey Hepburn
Do you have a fixed or growth mindset?
Children (and adults!) with a growth mindset
Believe that intelligence and abilities
Can be developed through effort, persistence
Trying different strategies and learning from mistakes
On the other hand, people with a fixed mindset
Believe that our intelligence and abilities are fixed traits
Something that you are born with
And that you can’t really do anything about
Anyone can have a growth mindset
But first they need to understand what it means
Why it matters
And they need to train their brains
To be open to new ideas, new challenges
To want to solve problems
And take on different tasks
It is not easy
And it is something I revisit often with my own children
As part of our home education
In fact, we start every academic year
With a series of workshops
Focused on our fantastic elastic brains
And the power of the magical yet!
For this learning we of course turn to books
Book that help us to understand
What it means to have a growth mindset
And why it is important
Children need to know that
It’s okay for us to make mistakes
If we don’t make mistakes we can’t learn from them
In order to make mistakes we have to have courage to take risks
Even if we are worried we might fail or fall
If we fall it does not matter
It is what we do after the fall that counts
We must be resilient
And not afraid of trying, trying and trying again
In order to take risks
To find the strength and courage to have
One more try
We have to put in some effort
We need to be focused and persistent
And we will eventually be successful
In our own unique way
Because we are all smart cookies
If you are planning lessons for a new class
Organising learning for a new school year
Preparing your own children for something new
Why not read a book or two from this selection
Plan some activities that will help little ones
Become more resilient and
Develop a growth mindset
Here are our favourite
Books That Help children with those two vital things
