Saving The Countryside

Look at this book closely. It is such a beautiful book. It has a glorious front to back cover that shows a young Beatrix with her sketches and stories and underneath the dust jacket is the same picture but with an older Beatrix holding her published book and an aged tree. So beautiful and so clever. The endpapers are just as wonderful adorned with sketches and art tools. The artwork is just stunning.

Saving The Countryside also known as Beatrix Potter’s Countryside

This is an illustrated biography of Beatrix Potter who is such a wonderful role model for young children. She is a true member of the Strong Girls Club. She was resourceful, remarkable and resilient. She was courageous, kind and creative. She is a true inspiration for home educated children and a hero to anyone who loves the lakes, fells and countryside of The Lake District National Park.

This is the life story of Beatrix Potter. A young girl who loved nature and the countryside. She lived in the city but spend her summers in the country. She loved life in the countryside and helping care for the animals and gardens. Beatrix enjoyed sketching and spent a lot of time drawing her rabbit Benjamin Bunny or Benjamin Bouncer. Beatrix sent her sketches to publishers. She wanted to do something important, something that mattered. Beatrix spent a lot of time studying nature. Beatrix faced a lot of resistance and rejection for her work in drawing, writing and science, but she never gave up. She continued writing and eventually her work was published and became much loved around the world. Beatrix illustrated her stories with pictures of cottages and gardens, faraway hills, farms & lakes … all the places she loved.

“Beatrix Potter, a woman who was not supposed to have a career, had created something important. She had created something that mattered and and she became an excellent business woman.”

Beatrix wanted to do more. She turned her attention to protecting the natural world. To save the countryside that inspired her books, Beatrix Potter bought as much land as she could. She donated it all to the The National Trust & we are all so incredibly lucky that she did because today The Lake District is just as beautiful as it always was. For us all to enjoy.
