Book Review: Mouse and Mole Lo and Behold!

Do you know what I love more than Christmas?

Advent.

I love the anticipation, the preparation, the excitement

I love the food, the decorations, buying presents, sending cards

I love the festive season just as much as Mouse and Mole

These two utterly adorable characters

Love Christmas

And wonderful Mole who always gets over excited

Just cannot wait for Christmas

This cuddly character reminds me so much of my children

In the title story of the latest Mouse and Mole book

Lo and Behold!

Christmas cannot come fast enough for Mole

He thinks that if he opens all the doors on his advent calendar at once

Then the big day will come sooner

This brilliant story captures all the warmth of the season

All the anticipation, preparation and excitement that I love

It portrays how we all want Christmas to hurry up

And how when it is over we wish we could have it all again

It is such a perfect story

And as always the affection and humour between Mouse and Mole

Is just storybook perfection

I adore these two gentle friends

And it makes my heart sing that my little Edie age 4, adores them too

What Edie does not love is the animated version of the first story in this new book

Snow Mole

The story by Joyce Dunbar is beautifully illustrated by James Mayhew

It is a story of two friends excited for fresh fallen snow

They get outside and play in the winter wonderland

Doing all the things that children love to do

Catching snowflakes on their tongues

Making footprints in the snow

Throwing snowballs

Sledging

Then together they make a snow mole

Mole wants to bring him inside

Which of course they cannot

So Mole decides to say outside with Snow Mole

He talks to his new snow friend

Until he falls asleep and has a lovely dream

The story is perfect

The animation is quite harrowing and Edie gets very upset

She did not want to hear the story from the book at first

But now she has heard it and knows that it is a much happier story

She loves it as much as I do

Do be careful though if you watch the animation

Mole’s dream is quite unsettling for little ones, which is a real shame

The third story in this wonderfully wintry and festive Mouse and Mole book

Is A Bump In The Night

It is very funny and makes us all laugh out loud

The perfect Christmas story

These books are full of heartwarming nostalgia

They make me long for simplicity of Christmases past

They make me determined to give my children magical Christmases

Filled with all the awe and wonder and excitement of the season

These are the books that make my soul sing

They make me feel like there is good in the world

And this festive edition is especially brilliant

In fact all the mouse and mole stories are perfect I think

Two dear friends growing old together

A quirky couple who love each other madly

But sometimes drive each other crackers

These stories are like a soft warm fluffy comfort blanket

And beg to be read in a big armchair with scones and tea

Or in this case, mince pies!

The illustrations are delightful

Capturing the affection between the two friends and their eccentric characters

Such a joy to read aloud

These tales are told with gentle humour and a huge heart

Simple adventures to be enjoyed over and over again

Beautiful books to give as gifts filled with stories to be treasured for always x
