Let It Be Bea!

Naming a baby is not easy

Naming a third daughter is hard

Naming a fourth child with a sibling in the sky is tricky

There is a pressure

“The pressure of a name”

A name that fits well with older siblings

A name that is strong and individual

A name of her own

A name that tells of what and who has come before

A name for a rainbow baby

rainbow baby

A name perfect for a baby

Who will grow into a girl

And one day a lady

What could the perfect name be?

We started thinking about names back in March

And it was in March someone suggested the perfect name

But we were unsure

There were lots of names that we quite liked

That one of us would like but not the other

Ida, Cordelia, Edith, Enid

To name just a few

I had a dream about Meredith Hope

But I think that baby joined her sister in the sky

David and I agreed no M names

M is always for Matilda

Our Tilda

Matilda Mae

This baby needed her own initial

This was going to be Baby B

Baby Bea

Baby Beatrice Hope

rainbow siblings

Beatrice means ‘she who brings happiness’

The name Beatrice is Latin in origin

In Italian Beatrice means ‘blesses’

Beatrice means happy or bringer of joy in Gaelic

In Dante’s great poem The Divine Comedy, Beatrice is his guide through Paradise and is idealized as the embodiment of the spirit of love

In Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, Beatrice is the witty, high-spirited heroine

Beatrice can also mean ‘voyager through life’

With such a rich history and so many beautiful meanings. Beatrice was a strong contender for Rainbow Baby’s name from the start

With the middle name Hope we add our own meaning

For us Beatrice Hope is a reminder to be hopeful

There is always Hope

What sealed the name for me

Was the link between Beatrice and the number nine

The number so special for Matilda Mae

Not only is Beatrice Dante’s guide in the Divine Comedy, she is also the focus of the Vita Nuova, a book of love poetry and narrative prose which is the precursor to the Divine Comedy. The sole subject of the Vita Nuova is Dante’s obsession with Beatrice. She was a real noblewoman, but Dante worshipped her as a divine creature and associated her with with the number 9, which (according to Dante) appeared in many spiritually mysterious ways throughout her life. She’s also associated with the color red. Anyway, after reading the Vita Nuova, one really can’t help but associate this name with divinity, grace, and beauty. (from Behind the Name)

And so there we have it

Baby sister to feisty twins

Baby sister to an angel

Our Rainbow Baby

Beatrice Hope

Let it Bea!
