So on Sunday the heavens opened and the rains came down! With such a soggy day in store we knew exactly what to do.
Suit Up!
With our puddlesuits and wellies and a pocket full of rice cakes we headed out to play.
Ever since I fell pregnant with Matilda, and Esther and William could walk, my holy grail has been safe and secure toddler play areas where Esther and William can play happily with very little intervention from me.
Lifting twins whilst heavily pregnant was not easy and I cannot always lift toddlers easily now as I am often wearing Baby Tilda. She is a baby that loves to be worn even under a sodden rain coat!
So Sunday, dressed for the weather we headed in to town where we discovered a toddler treasure! We had planned a walk in the park alongside the river Medway what we did not know was that hidden in Whatman Park is a fabulous toddler treasury. A pirate ship themed play area just for tots! Imaginatively named The Jolly Roger!
The wooden play ship is enclosed in a gated area with seating for adults around the edges. The imaginative play frame has easy low level steps to allow small toddlers to climb onto the rig themselves.
Once up the steps there is a platfrom to stand on before negotiating a wibbly wobbly bridge. This is a sturdy wobbler though and perfectly safe for little legs. Esther and William loved clip clopping and stomping over the bridge and each time they did they got a little faster. A little braver.
After the bridge there is a ramp with foot holds leading up to a super fast and super shiny slide.
I love that this toddler play area can be used independently by Esther and William. There are always buts to grab on to when wibbling, wobbling and climbing. The only potential bump is at the end of the slide where there would be a bit of a bump if you did not have someone to catch you.
And though The Jolly Roger is perfect for toddler adventurers it is easy for parents to join in too and lend a helping hand when needed.
We had a fun time at Whatman Park’s Jolly Roger. We all got very wet as we enjoyed climbing and sliding, swinging and bouncing. We will definitely come back again on a dry day to make the most of the magical sand pit.
This is a play park where I can confidently bring all three children on my own and after our active adventure we could picnic on the river bank and watch the world go by. Even on a day like today.
Soggy sandwich anyone?
